Very colorful map shows the States in excellent detail with counties, cities, towns & roads, railroads & canals located. Depicts the coast from Albemarle Sound south to Cape Lookout & Cape Fear, Charleston, Savannah, & Jacksonville, noting harbors, offshore islands, beaches & bays. Includes 3 insets, 1.) Charleston, 2.) Charlotte & 3.) Atlanta & Vicinity.

SE-US141 - J. N. BELLIN “Carte De La Caroline Et Georgie Pour Servir a L'Histoire Generale des Voyages.” Paris. 1757. Colored. 7½X11. Very attractive map by Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) one of France's premier cartographer/engravers, shows the coast of North & South Carolina from the Virginia border at Edenton, down to Cape Hatteras, Cape Lookout, Wilmington & Cape Fear. The Savannah River is located in Georgia & below it, inland is the “Pais Des Apalaches” (country of the Apalache Indians.) The map has a large, beautiful title cartouche in lower right decorated with scrolls & ornamental motifs. It was published in “Histoire Generale des Voyages.” in 1757 by Prevost D'Exiles. This is a gem of a map in very nice condition.

SE-US142 - J. JANSSON “Virginiae Partis Australis et Floridae Partis Orientalis Interjacentiumque Regionum Nova Descriptio.” Amsterdam 1642. Colored. 15X20. This very attractive & colorful map published by Jan Jansson (1588-1664) was based on a map by W & J Blaeu & shows America's southeast coast from Florida to Chesapeake Bay including Georgia, the Carolinas & Southern Virginia. In the late 16th century the Spanish had claimed the territory, but by the early 17th century the French & English had started colonies along the coast, & when the Blaeu map was drawn it was divided into English & French zones, depicted by the colorful coats-of-arms drawn on the map. Inland the map depicts rivers & lakes and the first showing of the Appalachian Mountains called Apalatcy Montes Auriseri, & it is said on the map that these mountains were named after the Indian King Apalatcy who lived there around 1562. This beautiful map is decorated with sailing ships, compass roses, cherubs & a handsome title cartouche ornamented with scrolls, strapwork & native figures. Published in “Nuevo Atlas O Teatro De Todo El Mundo” by Jan Jansson in 1642. French text on verso.

Finely drawn chart shows North America's southeast coast from Cape Henry & the entrance to Chesapeake Bay down to Albemarle Sound, Pamlico Sound, Cape Lookout & Cape Fear, North Carolina, & thence to Georgetown, Charleston, St. Helena Sound & Port Royal, South Carolina, continuing to Savannah, Georgia, & Ossabaw Sound & St. Catherine's Sound. Chart locates all the Outer Banks, with harbors, bays, & inlets & the track of the Axis of the Gulf Stream as it runs up the coast from Florida in the south. This fine chart was printed by A. Hoen & Co. Baltimore for the United States Coast & Geodetic Survey. Includes the Seal of the USCGS.

SE-US145 - J. BIEN “General Topographical Map Sheet. X. (Untitled. Georgia & Florida).” NY. 1891. Colored. 16½X27. This fine Civil War map of Georgia & the northern part of Florida depicts the coast from the Savannah River south to St. Catherine's Sound, Sapelo, Altamaha & St. Simon's Sounds. Then to Brunswick, the St. Mary's River ( Florida), Fernandina, Amelia Island, Nassau Sound, Jacksonville & St. Augustine. Inland the map stretches westward to the Flint River & Chattahoochee & then southward to Florida's Apalachee Bay & the Forbes Purchase. Includes topographical details, towns, & settlements, railroads, turnpike roads, & forts. Published by Julius Bien (1826-1909) a famous 19th century lithographer & printer, the map was issued in “The Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union & confederate Armies. 1861-1865,” Excellent detail.

Map includes parts of Virginia, Tennessee, North & South Carolina, Alabama, & Georgia. Depicts the sea coast from Wilmington & Cape Fear down to Charleston & Savannah. Locates roads & railroads, cites, towns & harbors. A fine map of the South & Southwest States to the Mississippi River that has 2 inset charts 1.) Cumberland Gap, Tenn.& 2.) Environs of Petersburg, VA. The map was published by Bien in New York for the "Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union & Confederate Armies. 1861-1865." Very good condition

Very detailed map from the Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union & Confederate Armies in 1861-1865" by Julius Bien depicts the coast from Cape Lookout down to Cape Fear continuing to Charleston & the Ashley & Cooper Rivers. Inland depicts cities, towns, villages, roads and railroads. Includes a large inset chart showing the entrance to the Cape Fear River, North Carolina. At base of map is a long horizontal sketch by the Navy Dept. of the Rebel Work for the Defense of the New Inlet, Entrance to Cape Fear River. A finely delineated map. Very good condition.

Finely delineated map from the Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union & Confederate Armies in 1861-1865, by Julius Bien depicts the seacoast from Charleston & the Ashley & Cooper Rivers to St. Helena Sound, Port Royal Entrance, Hilton Head, the Savannah River, to Ossabaw Island, St. Catherine's Sound & Harris Neck. Inland depicts cities, towns & villages, roads & railroads, all in fine detail. A fine Civil War map in very good condition.

SE-US149 - JOHNSON & WARD “Johnson's North & South Carolina.” NY 1863. Colored. 17X24. Splendid map of the two States with counties in different colors. The map traces the coastline from Cape Charles & Cape Henry down to Pamlico Sound, Cape Lookout, Cape Fear, to Charleston, St. Helena Sound & Savannah at the border of Georgia. Depicts hundreds of cities, towns & villages, harbors, roads & railroads. Includes 3 inset charts 1.) Plan of Charleston, 2.) Table Mountain, & 3.) Chimney Rock & French Broad River. The map was compiled by Alvin Jewett Johnson (1827-1884) & published by Johnson & Ward in “Johnson's New Illustrated (Steel plate) Atlas” in 1863. Condition is very good with a decorative border frame.

SE-US150 - S. A. MITCHELL “County Map of the States of Georgia & Alabama.” Phila. 1880. Colored. 13½X24½. Very colorful & detailed map of the two States with the Gulf Coast from West Florida to Mobile, Alabama shows counties in different colors & hundreds of cities, towns, & harbors around the coasts. Locates roads & railroads connecting major cities & includes two inset maps 1.) A street block plan of the City of Savannah on the Savannah River & 2.) Street block plan of the City of Atlanta. The map was compiled under the direction of Samuel Augustus Mitchell (1792-1868) & published by his son, in 1880 in “Mitchell's New General Atlas.” Good condition.

SE-US151 - J. HONDIUS “Virginiae Item Et Floridae Americe Provinciarum Nova Descriptio.” Amstd. 1606-1619. Colored. 13½X19. This wonderfully decorative early map shows America's east coast from the Chesapeake down to St. Augustine, in Florida & depicts sailing ships, sea monsters, & native Indians fishing offshore in a longboat. The map was published in the 1st Edition of Gerhard Mercator's Atlas by Jodocus Hondius & is the only map of North America included in the Atlas. According to Philip Burden in his “Mapping of North America” the map is “a compilation of John White's “Virginia” & Jacques Le Moynes' “Florida” as interpreted by Theodore de Bry in 1590 & 1591 respectively.” In 1606, the earliest date of this map, a party of English settlers sailed for North America to colonize an area in Chesapeake Bay, they called Jamestown & the Bay is noted on the map as Chesepioock Sinus. The map's title in top left is surrounded by a decorative strapwork design, along with 2 circular drawings of Indian villages one in Virginia & one in Florida. A wild turkey along with deer embellish the map, which includes mountains, lakes and an Indian couple dressed as the King & Queen of Florida. Furthermore in lower right is a decorative mileage scale surrounded by an intricate strapwork design. Includes French Text on verso. From “Atlas Sive Cosmographicae Meditationes De Frabrica Mundi Et Fabricati Figura,” by Gerhard Mercator. (1512-1594). He was the greatest cartographer, engraver, instrument maker, & innovator of his time and was the first to coin the word Atlas for a collection of maps. A scarce & beautiful early map.

SE-US152 - J. B. HOMANN “D. Carolina Nebst Einem Theil Von Florida.” Nurnberg. 1731. 8X11. Colored. This attractive & colorful map shows North & South Carolina & Northern Florida, with a coastline that runs south from Chesapeake Bay down to Port Augustine on the coast of Florida. Inland shows major towns & forests, open fields & rivers flowing to the coast. Includes part of Western Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. The map forms the lower right corner of a 4 part map titled “Domina Anglorum” which was published in Homann's "Grosser Atlas” in Nurnberg in 1731.
