Locates portion of Albany County and the City of Albany. The Capitol and Capitol Park, West Park and the Hospital, and each map names property owners and public buildings. Shows street block plans, roads and railroads. Wharves along the Hudson River; soundings, channels & islands appear in the river. Lighthouses along the shore; the Knickerbocker Ice Houses are located and the steamboat landing for the Albany Dayline Steamers. A very colorful map.

Albany 2. Rochester 3. Buffalo 4. Troy, and one large inset: "Map of New York City and Vicinity." This inset shows New York Harbor and the Hudson River to Tappan Bay. The East River to the entrance of Long Island Sound to New Rochelle. Map has a good depiction of Lake Ontario and the western end of Lake Erie, and shows all principal towns, harbors, rivers, lakes, roads, RR's and canals.

Names all property owners & shows their lands in excellent detail. Properties were large and the area was all privately owned down to 1st. Avenue where the school, church, & cemetery were placed. Also shows Powell's Cove on the eastern waterfront.

Street block plans with names of property owners. Locates public buildings, Central Avenue, the Rockaway Branch Railroad. Cornaga Avenue. Hotels, the Brooklyn Roman Catholic Orphan Asylum Property in the centre of town; the Episcopal Church; schools and a small section of Jamaica Bay.

On the back of this map is a map of "Westville or North West Point, Town of Hempstead" showing street block plans, names of property owners and railroads. Includes an inset map of the town of Little Neck showing streets, property owners and the Little Neck Hotel.

Locates street block plan of Peekskill with waterfront docks, iron works & coal yard; the Van Cortlandt Estate, Manito Mtn. & further up to the town of Phillipstown, Putnam County. On the west side locates Salisbury Meadow Marsh, Fort Clinton & the Hudson Suspension Bridge over to Anthony's Nose noted as 1610 feet long & 195 feet high. Striking chart shows Manhattan Island in center from 38th. street south to the Battery, indicating depth soundings in New York Bay and in the Hudson and East Rivers. Locates Brooklyn; the Buttermilk Channel; Governors Island; the U. S. Navy Yard; Green Point to Newtown Creek along the East River. Depicts the New Jersey shore of the Hudson River with Jersey City and Hoboken to Weehawken; and shows Bedloes Is. in the Upper Bay and the Jersey Flats. Street block plans are drawn on all land areas and wharves are noted along shorelines.

Depicts Hen Island, Mill Creek, Orienta, Crane Is. & Rye Point. Many soundings appear in the harbor entrance along with buoys & beacons, sunken rocks, sailing lines and indications of 'best anchorages.' From Eldridge's "Book of Harbor Charts."

NY187 - F. W. BEERS Port Chester West Chester Co. NY. 1867. Colored. 18X18. Fine map of the town of Port Chester showing street block plans, public buildings, major commercial sites, and names of property owners and locations of their dwellings and estates. The New York and New Haven Railroad and the Byram River bisect the town which is heavily settled in its center with large landholdings around its perimeter. From Beer's Atlas of New York and Vicinity. A finely engraved map.

NY188 - F. W. BEERS Plan of Beekmantown, Tarrytown and Irving, West Chester, NY. 1867. Colored. Very detailed map shows the Hudson River with Tarrytown on its eastern shore, and the path of the Hudson River Railroad running along the river's edge. Locates street block plans with names of property owners, public buildings, commercial and industrial sites, & includes an inset map of Part of Irving, and Beekmantown located at the top of the map is shown in pink. This is an excellent map forr genealogical research as it notes the names of all major landholders, and businesses within the towns. NY192 - F. W. BEERS Richmond Hill. N.Y. 1867. Colored. 23X13¼. This fascinating map shows Richmond Hill in Jamaica, Queens when it was the property of A.P.Man. A note under the title says it is laid out expressly for private residences and restricted against all nuisances. It is noted as being 138 above high water mark & its distance east from S.7th Street Ferry 7 miles, and west from Jamaica 1½ miles. All streets are 60ft wide with drives 30-60ft. The map shows private properties from Crystal Lake, Forest Park, the Williamsburg & Jamaica Turnpike to Railroad Avenue & Myrtle Avenue ending at the East New York & Jamaica Horse Railroad & the South Side Railroad Station & Clarenceville. Richmond Hill is currently bordered by the Van Wyck Expressway which leads to the JFK Airport & Jamaica Bay. From Beer's Atlas of New York and Vicinity.

NY194 - G. WATSON Portion of Yonkers & 24th Ward. and Portion of Bergen County, New Jersey. NY 1891. Colored. 19X29. Attractively colored map shows the Hudson River from Spuyten Duyvil on its eastern shore & Bergen County, New Jersey with Fort Lee and Englewood on its western side. Depicts street block plans for both Yonkers & Englewood on opposite sides of the River, with detailed names of property owners. Includes the upper reaches of the City of New York & Woodlawn Cemetery & indicates commercial businesses, boat and steamboat landings. Also includes an extensive depiction of the Palisades running the length of the New Jersey shore from Fort Lee to Huylers or Lower Closter. Original property owners in Englewood, New Jersey are noted as Lydecker, Vanderbeck, Westervelt, Booth, Van Brunt, Phelps, Brinckerhoff, names that still exist on Bergen County maps and were all names of the early settlers along the Hudson River dating from the late 18th and early 19th century. NY198 - F. W. BEERS Part of Flushing. Town of Flushing. Queens Co. NY 1873. Colored. 14¼X29½. Fine horizontal map shows the town from the property of B. W. Downing at Congress Avenue & Linden Avenue. Locates The Park, The Foundling Asylum and the center of town, which is heavily commercial and populated. Flushing Creek flows past the town and Ireland Creek winds its way around the outskirts of the populated area, to the estate of Mrs. MacDonald, near Ireland Avenue and Golden Street .This is a wonderfully detailed map from F. W. Beer's Atlas of Long Island. 1873.

NY199 - F. W. BEERS Part of Flushing. Town of Flushing. Queens Co. NY 1873. 14X32. Colored. This intensely detailed map of part of the town of Flushing stretches from Bayside Avenue and a number of large estates to the commercial center & Parson's & Company's Nursery on Bowne Avenue and then to Sandford Avenue & the Sandford Hall Private Asylum of MacDonald & Co. Map depicts all major property owners & commercial businesses & locates Franklin Place and Jamaica Avenue, Percy Street, Madison Avenue and the line of the proposed Flushing Village. As the map was published in 1873, it shows how much of the area was still privately owned in the late 19th century. From F. W. Beer's Atlas of Long Island. 1873.

NY200 - J. F. W. DES BARRES (Barre Co. Repro. 1968.) 5 Views on one sheet: 1.)“A View of the Highland of Neversunk, N.W.b.W Four Miles Distant with the Light House on Sandy Hook.” 2.) “The South Shore of Long Island Ten Leagues Eastward of Sandy Hook Four Miles Distant.” 3.) “New York & the Entrance of the North & East Rivers.” 4.) “The Light House on Sandy hook, S.E. One Mile.” 5.) “The Narrows Between Red and Yellow Hook on Long Island and the East Bluff of Staten Island Bearing W.b.W.” Original views of the entrance to New York harbor were published in London in 1777 in The Atlantic Neptune and reproduced in 1968 by the Barre Publishing Co. by photo-offset lithography from the original plates and hand colored on a rag content paper to replicate the originals. Size overall is 28X18½. Joseph F. W. Des Barres was an engineer/surveyor attached to the British forces during the Revolutionary War. During his time in North America he fought in the French and Indian wars and from 1764-1773 he & his fellow surveyors, charted the northeast from Newfoundland down to Delaware Bay. In 1774 Des Barres returned to England and began the monumental task of compiling his great sea atlas titled the Atlantic Neptune which he reissued and updated over the next ten years. In the 1960's the Barre Publishing Co. attempted to reproduce the Neptune in its entirety but due to financial difficulties it was never totally completed. This fine sheet of views from the Neptune is one of the remaining copies from the Barre Co. collection.

NY205 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Sketch Showing the Positions of Phelp's Ledge and Great Eastern Rock off Montauk Point.” Wash. D.C. 1863. B/W. 10½X9½. Small, finely detailed chart of Phelp's Ledge off Montauk Point lighthouse at the eastern end of Long Island, New York. Locates 'strong tide rip',& Great Eastern Rock with a bell buoy and includes many depth soundings over and around the Ledge. Depicts Montauk Shoal with a note “breaks in heavy weather to seaward”. This is a fine navigational chart of a dangerous area for shipping, off the end of Long Island.

NY209 - U. S. COAST & GEODETIC SURVEY United States. East Coast. New York. East River. Tallman Island to Queensboro Bridge. Wash. D. C. 1922 (1947 & 1950). Colored. 30X44. Striking chart shows the East River with Blackwell's Island, Astoria, Ward's Island Randall's Island & Hell Gate. Locates Port Morris, Riker's Island, La Guardia Field, Flushing Bay, College Point & Tallman Island. Depicts Hunt Point, Clason Point, Castle Hill Point & Westchester Creek. The chart includes both topographical and hydrographical details, and shows street block plans, anchorages and hundreds of depth soundings in sea areas, and includes navigational notes on tides, lights, beacons and buoys and notes on bridges. This is a very clean and finely detailed chart. #226.

Finely detailed map of the southern counties of New York State showing the Hudson River from Kingston down to Poughkeepsie. Newburgh and Peekskill and on to New York Harbor and Long Island. Depicts many towns and harbors on Long Island in fine detail,  and locates railroads, ferry lines, County Seats, State Parks and Indian Reservations. An excellent map. From C. S. Hammond's New World Atlas.

NY212 - T. BAKEWELL A South Prospect of Ye Flourishing City of New York in the Province of New York, North America. London. 1746. Partial color. 8½X19. This fine early view of New York Harbor with descriptive text below, was originally published in 1746 by Thomas Bakewell, a print and mapseller in 18th century London. This lithographic reproduction, reduced from the original engraving which measured 6½ feet in length by 28 inches wide, was presented to the New York Society Library by Mrs. Maria Peebles of Lansingburgh, New York in 1848.The detail of the ships in the harbor is particularly fine and the text below the scene tells the history of the Harbor from Capt. Henry Hudson's discovery in 1609 through the Dutch occupation and eventually it's transfer of ownership to England. Published in D. T. Valentine's Manual in 1853.

NY213 - ANON “Cataracte De Niagara.” Paris 1791. 7X10¼. Attractive view of Niagara Falls copied from the same scene in Thomas Bankes's “New System of Geography” published in London in 1790. This French edition is finely engraved and hand colored and show the Falls flowing over the high rocks with trees in the foreground and tiny depictions of tourists viewing the scene in lower right. A colorful scene with the river in the background.

Large intensely detailed map shows the Hudson River from the Weekhawken Ferry to Guttenberg, Cliffside, Edgewater and Fort Lee on the New Jersey shore, and upper Manhattan called Bloomingdale, on the River's east Shore, showing Central Park, River Side Park, Carmansville and Fort Washington. Includes the Harlem River, and New York's East River depicted from Hell Gate to Wards and Randalls Islands, and the entrance to Long Island Sound at Rikers Island. .From Watson's Hudson River Atlas. Published in New York 1891. A large, colorful chart with detailed street block plans.

Fine chart shows Little Neck Bay, City Island, Hunters Island, Davenport Neck to Great Neck and Manhasset Harbor & Port Washington. Depicts Hempstead Harbor, Carpenters Neck, Glenwood and Roslyn. The chart shows shoreline topography with low water areas, courses and sailing lines and locates buoys and beacons, Stepping Stone Light, Execution Rocks, Glen Cove Landing and includes depth soundings throughout water areas. A fine chart from George Eldridge's Book of Harbor Charts. New York to Boston. No. 2.

Large very detailed chart takes in the North Shore of Long Island from New Rochelle to Port Chester, Greenwich, Stamford, Fairfield, Bridgeport & Stamford, and the South Shore from Little Neck Bay to Hempstead Harbor, Lloyd's Neck, Eaton's Neck and Smithtown Bay to Port Jefferson and Mt. Sinai Harbors. A large inset chart in top left shows New York Harbor and Manhattan Is. with the Hudson and East Rivers, and the chart includes 6 finely engraved landfall approach views, hundreds of depth soundings and navigational notes on tides, buoys, beacons & sailing directions.

Fine chart shows the North Shore of Long Island from Milford and New Haven to Guilford, Madison, Clinton, Westbrook, Saybrook, Essex, the Connecticut River, Lyme and Grant's Neck, and the South Shore from Rocky Point, Wading River to Duck Point Pond, Greenport, Orient harbor and Oyster Point. Includes Great and Little Peconic Bays, Shelter Island, Noyack Bay and Sag Harbor. Hundreds of depth soundings are indicated in the Sound and the chart includes courses and detailed navigational notes on sailing directions, currents, tides, bottoms, buoys and beacons. Also includes 3 finely engraved landfall approach views.

NY216C - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Eastern Part of Long Island Sound.” Wash. D.C. 1855. B/W. 24½X35. Excellent chart shows the North Shore of Long Island from Niantic Bay to New London Harbor with Groton and Griswold. Shoreline continues to Fisher's Island Sound and Fisher's Island and Little Naragansett Bay to Point Judith Neck and the entrance to Naragansett Bay, Rhode Island. The South Shore shows part of Gardner's Bay and Gardner's Island. Napeague Bay and Montauk Point. Includes Block Island. Hundreds of depth soundings are indicated in the Sound and offshore, and the chart includes detailed navigational notes on sailing directions, tides, beacons, buoys, shoals and other dangers. (Very light staining in small area in top margin, into the chart about 1½ inches. Not affecting image.)

The above three charts are sold as a group as they can be joined for display if required. All charts are in good condition with minor defects as noted.

NY217 - JOHNSON & WARD “Johnson's Map of New York and the Adjacent Cities.” NY 1863.Colored. 16X25½. Very colorful map of Manhattan Island bordered by the Hudson or North River and the East River. Depicts Governor's Island and Buttermilk Channel, Brooklyn, Jersey City & Hoboken and shows street block plans, wharfs and slips, Blackwell's Island and Hallett's Cove. On Manhattan the map locates the green park area, with Parade and Cricket Ground, that became Central Park in 1873, ten years after this map was drawn. Attractive and finely detailed map shows the passage of the Hudson River from where it rises in upper New York State in the vicinity of Lake George, down to where it ends in New York Harbor past Manhattan Island and Brooklyn and New Jersey's eastern shore. The map depicts towns and villages, lakes and mountain ranges with part of Pennsylvania and Connecticut, and shows Lake Ontario in top left with Oswego and Point de la Traverse on it's shore. This is a very fine 18th century map published in London in the very popular Gentleman's Magazine.

NY237 - J. WIGRAM “A Map of the Towns of Livingston, Germantown and Clermont in the County of Columbia. Compiled from Actual Surveys in January 1798.” Albany, NY 1850. Colored. 16X23. This fine Survey was reprinted in 1850 by David Vaughan and is an exact copy of the original Survey by John Wigram who drew it in 1798. It shows several hundred names of property owners and settlers near the Hudson River and depicts lakes and brooks, the town of Ancram, churches, grist mills, the road to the Manor House and the house of the widow Livingston. The Survey was included in “The Documentary History of the State of New York” and compiled by E. B. O'Callaghan, M.D. in 1850. A decorative compass rose pointer is located in top left and refers to the magnetic meridian in 1798. Excellent detail.

This great map of New York State including Long Island and Long Island Sound, was published by Jean Alexandre Buchon (1791-1846) in Paris for the French Edition of Carey and Lea's “American Atlas,” of 1822. The map is finely engraved and detailed and is bordered by historical, statistical and commercial information about the State. Counties are depicted in different colors, and all major cities, towns and harbors are noted, along with rivers, mountains, lakes and Lake Ontario. This is a fine and impressive map of New York State.

David Burr was Topographer to the United States Post Office and Geographer to the House of Representatives in Washington. He also published his Atlas of New York in 1929.

This historically interesting Fort was situated on the south side of the river which connects Lake George (or Lake Sacrament) with Lake Champlain. It was known as a 'regular' Fort defended on all sides by redoubts particularly to the East where it was most likely to be attacked. The drawing shown here above the text, shows the fortifications & the river. Crown Point connects to Montreal via Lake Champlain, and the area was the site of many battles and skirmishes between the English and the French during the 18th century.

Colored. 16X8½. This fine Revolutionary War map of the Hudson River from New York Harbor to Haverstraw & Croton, shows the positions of the American & British forces at White Plains on the 12th & 18th October 1776. The map depicts encampments & engagements at Chester, Pelham Manor, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, & White Plains & shows rivers, roads & a section of the shore along Long Island Sound. On the New Jersey side of the Hudson the map depicts Fort Lee across the river from Fort Washington, where an underwater barricade was stretched to try to stop enemy ships from sailing up the river. The map was published in the French edition of John Marshall's “Life of Washington” published in 1804. The French edition titled “Vie de George Washington” was published in 1807 in Paris. A finely engraved map.

Depicts Central Park & the Croton Reservoir, the Hudson Street Tunnel & locates lines indicating Steam Railroads, Elevated Railroads, & Horse Drawn Railroads (Horse Drawn Trams.) The map also includes a listing titled “Ocean Steamers” giving a detailed list of all the Stemahips using New York Harbor, with their countries of origin, their routes & the locations of their New York Harbor Piers. On the back of the map are two additional maps 1.) Greater New York & 2.) Baltimore. Published by George F. Cram in his “Superior Atlas of the World” this map portrays Manhattan as it was perceived in the late 19th century.

This fine chart of the Railroads that serviced New York State in the late 19th century shows a striking depiction of Lake Ontario & the River St. Lawrence in Canada, where the River Richelieu flows down to Lake Champlain, & where the Hudson River continues southward down New York State to New York Harbor & Long Island. Below Lake Ontario are New York's Finger Lakes depicting towns & villages serviced by the Railroad & across the map are all the tracks along with canals & in the top left corner is a listing of all the Railroads & their Branch lines with their lengths in miles. The map also includes a section of Lake Erie and a list of the Railroads in operation, those in progress & those proposed. A fine historical document.
