Striking map of the Nile Delta and the River Nile flowing through Egypt with detailed settlements along it's banks to Assuan and the Monastery of Savour. Locates Alexandria; Suez and the Gulf of Suez and the Red Sea. Part of Arabia and the Great Desert of Selima. Many towns & villages in the Delta regions. (Some overall age-toning, otherwise very good condition.

Colored. 18X21 Large colorful map shows the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea; wide areas of desert, Locates Ispahan, Shiraz, Meshid, Taheran and all primary towns, villages and settlements. Shows the border kingdoms and states of Iraq with Bagdad & Babylon; Russia and Afganistan. (Light overall age toning with some browning down centerfold, otherwise good condition.)

TME106 - J. PLAYFAIR "Palestine & Syria Drawn & Engraved for Dr. Playfair's Atlas" Edin. 1821. Colored. 17X11. Fine map shows the seacoast at the eastern end of the Mediterranean locating Palestine, Pachali of Acre, Pachalic of Tripoli, Pachalic of Alippo and the Pachalic of Damascus, with many towns & settlements. Shows rivers, elevations. Locates a region titled "Tribes of the Haouari Arabes", the Plains of Havron and the Bedouins; Jericho, Gaza, Maouali, Jerusalem, Bairout, Antioch, Damascus, Antioch, Acre and Jaffa.

TNE109.jpg (137341 bytes)TME109 - ASTLEY (T) "A Chart of the Coast of Persia, Guzarat & Malabar drawn from the French chart of the Eastern Ocean published in 1740 by order of the Count de Maurepas, improved from particular Surveys and regulated by Astronomical Observations." London c.1745. Colored. 10X8. Attractive and finely engraved chart shows the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman with Cape Ras algat on the Arabian shore and Cape Jaskes on the Persian side. Includes the coasts of Persia, the Arabian Sea, western India and the Malabar coast. Locates the Maldive and many offshore islands. Capes, bays, shoals and all principal harbors. Very decorative title cartouche in water area has leaf and scroll motif. Sea-serpents, a fountain and sea-horse. Compass rose in center. Longitude from London.

Handsome map of Palestine with many towns and settlements noted.From D'Anville's 'Complete Body of Ancient Geography.' Includes 3 very detailed inset maps. 1. Jerusalem. 2. The Tribes. 3. Places laid down by distances given on a scale reduced to a third. Excellent overall detail of the region.

Very finely engraved & detailed map shows Palestine & part of Syria from Berytus & Sidon to Gaza and Egypt on the Mediterranean coast. Includes Jerusalem & many smaller cities, towns & harbors & locates the Dead Sea, Damascus and a large section of the Arabian desert on Palestine's eastern border. Includes 2 inset charts 1. Royaume Des Israelites sous David & Salomon, and 2. Les Douze Tribes. (The 12 Tribes depicting their borders and regions.) The title is in a decorative landscape scene with a drawing of a tent under leafy tree branches. An attractive map from Atlas Complet by C. Malte Brun and A. E. Lapie. Drawn by Giraldon and engraved by J. B. M. Chamouin.

TME128 - BRITISH ADMIRALTY Red Sea Compiled from the most recent surveys by the Hydrographic Office of the Admiralty to 1884. London. 1885 (updated to 1967.) B/W. 39X26. Magnificent chart shows the Red Sea from Suez & the Gulf of Suez to the Strait of Bab-El-Mander & the Gulf of Aden. Thousands of depth soundings are located in the sea areas and all shoreline harbors and settlements are noted on both the Egypt and Yemeni sides. Chart also includes the Nile River and locates Khartoum and the Bayuda Desert. Also locates the Hedjaz Railway from Maan to Medina in Saudi Arabia. A very fine chart with excellent detail. Chart #2523.

TME129 - J. KEUR “Perigeinatie Veertich-Iarige Reyse Der Kinderen Israels...der Pieter en Jacob Keur”. Amstd. 1702. Colored. 12X17½. This beautifully engraved map of Palestine shows the Mediterranean coast decorated with sailing ships and a compass rose and a very decorative title cartouche, and along the bottom of the map are illustrations of different episodes of the Exodus especialy of the receipt of the Tables of the Law by Moses. Dutch text is inscribed on both sides of the verso titled “Korte Beschryvinge van de Reyse der Kinderen Israels”. Map also depicts many place names, rivers and seas throughout. Fine detail. ( Ref. Maps of the Holy Land Compiled by Eran Laor. #807. ) A lovely map.

TME133 - P. LAPIE “Perse” Paris. 1812. Colored. 9X12.Finely engraved and detailed map shows Persia (present day Iran) and part of Turkey's Ottoman Empire (present day Iraq). Depicts Tehran inland from the Caspian Sea and Baghdad in the Arabian Desert. Includes the Persian Gulf and Afganistan between Iran and Pakistan. The map depicts many towns and settlements, rivers & deserts and is interesting as it shows how the borders of these prominent Middle Eastern countries have changed since 1812 when the map was drawn. Includes a decorative vignette in lower left showing Arabs in native costume, a mosque, palm trees and the title on a rock in a landscape scene. Published by Conrad Malte Brun (1775-1826) in “Atlas Complet Du Precis de la Geographie Universelle” and prepared by Pierre Lapie (1777-1850), a well known surveyor and cartographer.

TME135 - R. BONNE “Palestina Et Syria. Autore Pto Bona. Primario Hydrographo Navati. Cum Prilegio Regis.” Paris. 1781. Outline color. 12½X8½. Finely detailed map drawn in Latin shows Palestine and Syria's coast on the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea and includes part of Cyprus and the southern coast of Turkey. Depicts lakes, seas & mountains and primary towns and settlements and includes Damascus, Sidon, Tyre and Joppa, Bethlehem & Hebron. From “Recueil des Cartes Sur la Geographe Ancienne” engraved under the direction of Rigobert Bonne (1727-1795) the Royal Hydrographer and head of the Dept. de la Marine in 18th century Paris.

TME136 - BRITISH ADMIRALTY “Red Sea. Approaches to Jiddah. Surveyed by Commdr. W. J. L. Wharton R.N. H.M.S. Fawn. 1876.” London.1953 (1967.) B/W. 39X26. Large vertical chart of the approaches to the Port of Jiddah (Mecca) half way down the eastern shore of the Red Sea. The chart is intensely detailed and carries a cautionary notice that says “a good berth should be given to all reefs in the approaches as the area is but imperfectly known. Mariners are warned accordingly.” The areas shown on the chart are dotted with reefs and include hundreds of depth soundings. Chart #2599.

TME137 - BRITISH ADMIRALTY “Persian Gulf. Bushire (Bushenr).” London. 1906 (1965)B/W. 39X25½. Excellent chart shows Bushire on the Persian Gulf in present day Iran. Locates the Persian Governor's House and the British Residency. Hundreds of depth soundings appear in the Gulf and the chart includes both topographical and hydrographical details. At top of chart is a long landfall approach view of Bushire at Lat. 28°57'30N. Long. 50°45'40E. A very detailed chart in good condition.

TME138 - BRITISH ADMIRALTY “Red Sea. Eastern Shore. Sirrain I. to Quadimbal I.and approaches to Al Qunfidha. Surveyed by Comdr J. D. Nares. D.S.O.R.N. H.M.S. Surveying Ship Enterprise 1918.” London. 1923 (1954.) B/W. 39X26. Fine chart shows Al Quinfidha on the eastern shore of the Red Sea. Hundreds of depth soundings are drawn in coastal waters and chart includes both hydrographical and topographical details. Includes 2 inset charts 1. Al Quinfidha and 2.Khor Nahud and 2 landfall approach views at top of chart for aid to mariners approaching the region. A well drawn chart with excellent details. Chart #322.

TME139 - BRITISH ADMIRALTY “Plan of the Harbour of Messaua on the Coast of Abyssinia on the Red Sea from an English Ms." London. 1784. B/W. 11½X8¼. Chart includes 3 insets, 1. Plan of Messaua received from Capt. Bibb 1763. 2. Plan of Matzua and Arkiko from M. D'Anville. According to the Author of the Periplus Maris Erythraei, the situation of the ancient Adulis is 20 Radia from the Sea, and 3. Plan of Musoaua from Mr. Bruce's Ms. Published According to Act of Parliament by Alexander Dalrymple (1737-1808) in London. Chart #730.

TME140 - P. DUVAL “Divisio Palestinae Secundum Provincias.” Paris. c. 1685. Partial color. 6X7½. This small map depicts Palestine as it was known in the late 17th century. It shows the Provinces of Galilee and Phoenicia in the north bordering on Syria & the Mediterranean sea-coast from Tyrus south to the border with Egypt. Includes the Sea of Galilee & the Jordan River that flows from it down to the Dead Sea. Many small towns & settlements in desert areas are named & inland regions are called Arabia, which are now part of Jordan. The map was produced by Pierre Du Val (1618-1683), a prolific17th century mapmaker. He also compiled atlases, map games & town plans. He died in Paris in 1683 & was succeeded by his widow & two daughters who carried on his business. This attractive map was published in Du Val's “La Geographie Universelle En Plusieurs Cartes.” in 1685. (A scarce issue)

TME141 - R. BONNE “Carte De L'Egypte Moderne Avec La Partie Orientale Des Etats De Tripoli.” Paris. 1787. Colored. 8½X12½. Very detailed map of the Nile River in Egypt from it's delta at Alexandria on the Mediterranean Sea down to Asuan where a Cataract is noted at the border with what is present day Northern Province & the Nubian Desert. Includes the Red Sea, part of Arabia and Palestine and the North African seacoast on the Mediterranean Sea to Tripoli. Also shows the islands of Crete & Cyprus. The map was engraved under the direction of Rigobert Bonne (1727-1795) the Head of the Depot De La Marine in Paris, and published by Nicolas Demarest in “Atlas Encyclopedique” in 1787.

TME142 - T. KELLY “Egypt.” London. 1817. Colored. 9½X7¼. Finely engraved map of the Nile River tracing it's path through Egypt from it's Delta on the Mediterranean Sea-Coast near the City of Alexandria. Depicts the Desert & the large Oasis Magna with tribal settlements in it's vicinity & includes many place names of cities, towns & settlements along both sides of the river, and shows an area called The Pyramids on the Nile's western shore. Includes the Gulf of Suez & part of the Red Sea. The map was published by Thomas Kelly & included in Christopher Kelly's “A New & Complete System of Geography.” A very attractive map.

TME143 - A.FINLEY “Egypt.” Phila. 1832. Colored. 11¼X8½. Excellent map of Egypt shows the Nile River from the Delta on the Mediterranean Sea-Coast near the City & Harbor of Alexandria. The River flows southward bordered by towns & settlements on it's east a nd west shores. Depicts the Desert & the Oasis of Parva and the larger Oasis Magni, both have indications of tribal settlements in their vicinity. Includes the Gulf of Suez & the Red Sea & part of Arabia Petraea. The map was published by Anthony Finley (c.1790-1840) for inclusion in his “New General Atlas,” with plates engraved by Young & Delleker. Finely engraved & colored.

TME144 - THOMAS COWPERTHWAIT “Egypt Etc.” Phila. 1850. Colored. 15X12¼. This is a wonderfully detailed map of Egypt with the Nile River flowing southward from it's Delta on the Mediterranean Sea-Coast near the City & Harbor of Alexandria. The River flows down to Nubia, in a direct line course of 2,450 miles, and along all it's windings measures over 4000 miles, longer than any other river in the world. The Nile flows past Cairo & on both east & west sides of it's length are towns & settlements with notes on ancient tombs & ruins, cataracts (rapids) pyramids, temples, slave markets and desert regions. Includes the Gulf of Suez & the Red Sea. In the top right corner of the map is a listing of Egyptian names used on the map, translated into English. The map has a decorative border frame & was printed by Thomas Cowperthwait in Philadelphia in 1850 for Samuel Augustus Mitchell's “New Universal Atlas.” A fine map with good color.

TME145 - H. MOLL “A Map of the Situation of Ye Garden of Eden As Also of Mt. Ararat, Whereon the Ark Rested.” London. c.1711. Colored. 7X8½. Very attractive small map shows Syria & the Land of Canaan, bordered by the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and the Island of Cyprus. Depicts Armenia & Ararat with the Gordiean Mountains “where the Ark was supposed to rest.” Further east is the Caspain Sea, or Hyrcanian Sea, with Mount Caucasus & Margiana. At the base of the map is the northern region of the Persian Gulf, the Country of Ede & the Land of Cush. Includes a decorative compass rose with fleur-de-lys motif. The map was engraved by Herman Moll (c.1654-1733) one of London's most esteemed & prolific early 18th century cartographers for his “Atlas Geographicus, or a Compleat System of Geography (Ancient & Modern).”
