Colored. 18X28. Excellent county map shows the City of Middletown and
the townships of Middletown, Cromwell, Portland, Durham, Haddam, Chatham
& Middlefield. Depicts the Connecticut River flowing south from North
Cromwell down to East Haddam & Goodspeed Landing Post Office. Includes
all principal towns and villages, rivers and hills and Pocotopaug Lake.

Colored. 18X28. Fine county map shows the City of Norwich and the Thames
River & Thamesville. Depicts the townships of Colchester, Bozrah,
Lebanon, Franklin, Sprague, Lisbon, Griswold, Preston and Voluntown and
includes a small inset chart of the “West Part of the Town of
Colchester.” The map shows all major towns and villages, roads and
railroads, hills, rivers, brooks, and Post Offices. This excellent map
was published in the “Town and City Atlas of the State of Connecticut.”

Philadelphia. 1804. Colored. 8X10. Finely detailed map drawn by Samuel Lewis
(c.1754-1822) a well respected geographer and draughtsman in the early
19th century in Philadelphia, where he drew maps for many of the most
prominent American map makers. He was also an aide to General George
Washington. This excellent map of Connecticut shows the Post Road
running from Greenwich in the south to Fairfield, New Haven and Hartford
and on upstate past Enfield and Suffield toward the Massachusetts
border. The Connecticut River is shown flowing down the State to Long
Island Sound where a Ferry is indicated crossing the river, & where
another Post Road is shown leading to New London. The map depicts all
the major cities towns & villages inland, and all the harbors, bays and
offshore islands along the coast. In 1804 Lewis worked with Aaron Arrowsmith on “A New and Elegant General Atlas” in which this map was
published by John Conrad & Company in Philadelphia. (Ref. Tooley's

Hildburghausen 1846. Colored. 12X14¼. Attractive and finely engraved map
of Connecticut by a prominent German cartographer and publisher, Joseph
Meyer (1796-1856) includes two inset maps of 1. Hartford, and 2. New
Haven. The detail of the cities, towns and harbors is excellent as the
Germans were fine engravers, and the map depicts roads, rivers, canals,
mountains and the coast from Greenwich to Westerly, Rhode Island
including all the capes, bays harbors and offshore islands. In top left
is a table of reference to the population of both counties and county
towns, as of 1830. The map was published in “Meyer's Hand Atlas” in
Germany in 1846. |

TANNER “Connecticut.” Philadelphia. 1839. Colored. 11X14. Intensely
detailed map shows Counties in different colors and depicts all major
cities, towns and harbors, post roads, canals & railroads & locates
churches, taverns and the Court House. The Connecticut River is depicted
flowing south from Massachusetts down the State to where it exits at
Lynds Point, and the Housatonic River flows down the western side of the
State to Long Island Sound to it's entrance between Milford and
Stratford Points. The map includes Population Tables for Counties and
County Towns as of 1840. Two inset charts are drawn in lower right 1.

B. Dawson, under the direction of Henry
Schenk Tanner (1786-1858) a well-known engraver and publisher, the map
was included in “A New Universal Atlas” published by Carey & Hart in

Colored. 18X28. Map shows detailed street block plans of the City with
parks, commercial buildings, churches, cemeteries, dwellings and depicts
the tracks of the New York, New Haven, Hartford and New England Railroad
snaking through the City from south to north. Map also shows the
Connecticut River with steamboat landings and a Toll Bridge leading to
East Hartford. The 1st to the 8th Ward comprise the central part of the
City. From “The Town and City Atlas of the State of Connecticut.”

offshore and the Norwalk River. Depicts Chimons Island, Ram & Smith's
Islands, Keysers Island and Tavern Island owned by the Norwalk
Oysterman's Association. The map names all property owners, post
offices, the Turn Pike Road, railroads and locates business and
commercial properties. An inset map in lower left depicts “Winnipauk” on
the Norwalk River with it's woolen and felt mills, stone quarry and

NY. 1867. Colored. 21X25. Wonderfully detailed town plan shows and names
all property owners and estates, businesses, streets, railroads, post
offices, cemeteries, churches, schools, the Stamford Canal and the
Shippan Trotting Course. Includes detailed listings of merchants,
carriage manufacturers, blacksmiths, carpenters, builders and painters,
lawyers, physicians, banks, and hotels. The Plan was issued folded in F.
W. Beer's “Atlas of New York and Vicinity.” in 1867. Published on thin
paper the plan has been flattened and conserved and is ready for
framing. in very good condition. |
